Perhaps Henry's idolising of Gladstone came from his involvement in the 'Justice for Wales' campaign in the late 1800's. Gladstone made a speech in 1892 at the summit of Mount Snowdon, where he addressed the people of Eryri upon 'justice to Wales'. When in short, he outlined his vision for justice to the people by including the disestablishment of the Church of Wales and reduced rents. A plaque stands at the very point there today on the Watkin path, for anyone who's interested.
