Kinder Scout - Dusk 'til Dawn

Kinder Scout is a stretch of moorland in the Dark Peak of the Peak District in England. It is the highest point in the Peak District, and the highest point in the East Midlands, lying between the cities of Manchester and Sheffield. In essence the path I chose to document is approximately 12 miles in length, and took equally as many hours as I followed the winding paths across the wind-swept landscape. Exploring the hidden pleasures of the British countryside with the camera at your side is something that should never be abandoned. Despite the concerned looks from fellow hikers descending before nightfall just as I began my walk, the reason I chose to document this place was essentially the unique rock formations that lend the area so well to photography. For miles around the area is littered with gritstone rock formations, carved by ice, water and wind over centuries as they become exposed above the moorland surface. My blog describes the details of my solitary climb and the opportunity to enjoy the entire district by myself from sunset to sun rise. I chose to photograph the area using both black and white film and digital colour exposures to give myself the best possible chance of portraying the beautiful and unusual oddities the peak had to offer.
